School rated “good” for business teaching

Ofsted

A local secondary school has been rated “good” in a subject-specific Ofsted inspection that took place last month.

Inspectors visited Patchway Community College on 21st and 22nd November to assess the school’s teaching of economics and business, subjects closely related to the school’s specialism in ‘business and enterprise learning’.

Pupils’ achievement in the subjects is said to be “good and improving” and the teaching “good and well resourced”.

The school also received a “good” rating for the quality of the curriculum and the effectiveness of leadership and management.

Areas for improvement identified by the inspector include:

“Strengthening students’ ability to apply their knowledge independently to a range of business contexts and extending the links with businesses to support learning on formally assessed courses.”
