Permission given to more than double number of airfield homes to 6,500

A “historic decision” has been taken to approve revised plans for a giant housing development on the former Filton Airfield. YTL Developments now has planning permission to build 6,500 homes on the site, more than twice the number included in its original masterplan. The first phase of 3,675 dwellings is predicted to be completed by 2036, with later phases extending to 2048 or beyond.

Permission granted for 1,514-bed student flats on former Filton Airfield

YTL Developments has secured planning permission for four 8-storey apartment blocks on the former Filton Airfield site. The purpose-built student accommodation will be capable of providing 1,514 bedrooms along with associated communal facilities. The scheme is intended to be open in September 2026, by which time the proposed North Filton Station should be operational.

Four-month closure of Coniston Road for subway infill and new crossing installation

A key road through Patchway has been closed for “up to 16 weeks” to allow a pedestrian subway to be filled in and replaced with an ‘on the level’ zebra crossing. South Glos Council says the scheme is needed because the parapet railings over the subway are in poor condition and “do not provide sufficient containment in the event of a collision”. Bus diversions are in operation.

Patchway homeowner blocked from building garden fence to protect young kids

A homeowner has been blocked from building a garden fence to protect his young children from a busy road in Patchway. South Gloucestershire Council refused planning permission for the 1.85-metre high boundary fence due to the impact on views and an underground oil pipeline. A council planning officer said the fence would “stand out” from the rest of the housing estate.

Man charged following bomb scare at Patchway Police Centre

A 43-year-old man has been charged in connection with an incident which led to the evacuation of Patchway Police Centre and nearby properties on Saturday (5th August). The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit were called to the police centre on the A38 Gloucester Road to examine a suspicious item shortly after 5pm. The A38 remained closed until the ‘all clear’ was given at around 8.40pm.

Green light for second phase of new homes on former Filton Airfield

YTL Developments has been granted planning permission for the next phase of new homes at Brabazon, the new neighbourhood for Bristol taking shape on the site of the historic former Filton Airfield. Consisting of 339 dwellings, the second residential phase will be built on Parcel E1, which lies to the east of the currently under-construction Phase 1, near Blenheim Roundabout.
