Fire service offers free home fire safety checks

Lee Wright carries out a Home Fire Safety Visit

People living in Patchway are being urged to protect their homes from the dangers of fire.

A fire in the home can be devastating, but many of the incidents Avon Fire & Rescue Service is called to could have been avoided.

Home Fire Safety Visits are offered to the most vulnerable in the community and are based on the level of risk identified by staff from Avon Fire & Rescue Service.

To find out if you qualify for a free Home Fire Safety Visit, please contact Avon Fire & Rescue Service on 0117 926 2061.

A member of staff will carry out a telephone assessment based on your property and the people who live there.

Following the assessment you will be provided with fire safety advice and a visit to your home may be arranged. Smoke alarms may also be fitted during the visit if they are needed.

The visits are carried out by firefighters or a member of the service’s team of specially trained staff. Practical measures you can put in place to reduce the risk of fire in your home will be offered, including how you and your family can escape safely from a fire, closing all doors at night and switching off electrical items which don’t need to be left on.

All of these services are provided free of charge.
