Plans have been unveiled to build a new permanent indoor ice rink, together with a skydiving and ski centre, at a site in Cribbs Causeway.

The proposals are part of a vision by the developer, Baylis Estates, to introduce an ‘active sports’ theme to the entertainment and retail opportunities available in the area and make Cribbs Causeway a ‘day-out’ destination.

The new facilities also include a sports store, hotel, restaurant, coffee ‘drive thru’ and car showroom and will be developed on land next to The Venue.

This site had previously been earmarked for the proposed Concorde Museum until an alternative museum site was secured through an agreement last year between the Bristol Aero Collection Trust and neighbouring Filton Airfield owner BAE Systems.

Prior to submitting a planning application, Baylis Estates will be carrying out a community engagement programme, including a public exhibition at The Mall shopping centre on Friday 19th June from 1pm until 7pm.

David Mace, Director at Baylis Estates, said:

“Our ambitious plans for the site include building a flagship permanent indoor ice rink so that residents across the district and the wider West of England area no longer have to travel to other parts of the country to access this sort of facility all year round.”

“An indoor skydiving and ski centre – the first in the South West – is also planned for the site, along with a sports store, hotel, restaurant, coffee ‘drive thru’ and car showroom, which will deliver significant social and economic benefits to the area.”

“We are really keen to develop an active sports theme on this site which links well with the adjoining leisure park at The Venue and will provide important and integrated facilities for the future development in and around Cribbs Causeway.”

Posted on Wednesday 10th June 2015 at 6:21 pm by SH (Editor)

Charlton Hayes Summer Fun Day on Saturday 13th June 2015.

Charlton Hayes residents are being invited to attend their summer fun day on Saturday (13th June). This is the third community fun day for residents of this rapidly expanding community. With over 900 homes occupied, the community fun day plays a vital role in getting residents together to help create shared memories.

At this year’s event, a wide variety of activities will be on offer, many of which are free, including the face painting, a bouncy castle and the World Jungle circus skills workshop. There will be opportunities to meet staff from Southern Brooks Community Partnerships, the local developmental charity whose community development worker has led in the organising of this fun day.

Residents will also meet Caitlin, who is running a cultivate project until the autumn to plant edible foods across the development; this is a great opportunity for residents to make a positive mark on their new community.

The fun day will run from 11am to 2pm and there will be performances throughout the event. As before, it will be located at The Temporary Green, Ringsfield Lane, Charlton Hayes BS34 5AQ.

Mall Cribbs launches Thursday ‘Mummy Mornings’

Posted on Wednesday 10th June 2015 at 5:37 pm by SH (Editor)

Thursday Mummy Mornings at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol.

Having a baby is a huge life change and, for many women, being at home full time is a big adjustment – which is why meeting up with friends and fellow mums is so important. With this in mind, The Mall at Cribbs Causeway has launched a new campaign to connect mums in Bristol.

A recent survey by AXA PPP Healthcare and Netmums found that 28% of new mothers were lonely since having their baby and nearly a quarter (24%) had no family living nearby.

Research shows that social media has a role to play in keeping new mums socially connected, with nearly a fifth (19%) saying they get in touch with other new mothers this way – but ‘real world’ interaction is just as important. To promote this, The Mall at Cribbs Causeway is launching a new Mummy Mornings programme, to help parents connect locally.

The Mummy Mornings will take place every Thursday from 11th June until 16th July. Each week there will be free baby-friendly activities, as well as exclusive offers and discounts from selected stores and cafes. The idea is to bring mums together in a friendly, safe and convenient environment to connect with friends and make new ones.

Activities will rotate each week and include face painting, story time sessions and parent and baby singalongs. There’ll also be fun for grown-ups, with activities including styling workshops, mini-makeovers and free hand massages.*

Maria Crayton, head of marketing at The Mall, said:

“The Mall is very baby-friendly, with free parking and easy access for pushchairs, so we’re already really popular with parents. We noticed that a lot of mums were visiting on their own with buggies. The Mall team is made up of quite a few mums and, having been there ourselves, we know how nice it is to meet up with other parents, particularly if you don’t have family nearby.”

She added:

“But of course, dads and grandparents are also welcome!”
