Marks & Spencer store at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted at The Mall, Cribbs Causeway, yesterday (Saturday 12th July).

The incident happened just after 12noon, close to the Marks and Spencer store.

A man was stabbed in the lower back during the incident and was taken to Southmead Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Det Chief Insp Simon Wilstead said:

“We continue to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident and one man remains in custody at this time.”

“This was an isolated incident and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.”

“We would like to say thank you to several members of the public who acted extremely bravely yesterday and came to the assistance of the victim.”

“We are still appealing for witnesses of the incident to come forward and would ask that anyone who saw it to please contact North East Area CID via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101 quoting 70809/14.”

A 46-year-old man arrested yesterday in connection with the incident has subsequently been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.

The Bristol Post reported yesterday that the incident occurred in the area between Marks and Spencer and Waterstones.

UPDATE (Sunday 13th June, 9.35pm): A further press release from Avon and Somerset Police states:

“We have charged a 46-year-old man with attempted murder after a man suffered stab wounds during an incident at a shopping centre in Cribbs Causeway yesterday (12/07).”

“David Barrow, aged 46, of Fairford Crescent, Stoke Lodge, Bristol, has been charged with attempted murder and has been remanded in custody to appear before North Avon Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Monday).”

“A 41-year-old man remains in hospital in a stable condition following the incident which happened close to a Marks and Spencer store at The Mall yesterday (12/07).”

  1. Went to go shopping at about 3pm and M&S was closed due to a “power cut”. I assume that this was the actual cause.

    I hope the victim makes a speedy recovery.
