The Spar store and Post Office in Roadway Road, Patchway.

Patchway Post Office, in Rodway Road, is to be changed into a new ‘main’ style branch that offers some services over extended opening hours.

The post office will close for refurbishment at 5.30pm on Monday 1st September. When it reopens ten days later, at 1pm on Thursday 11th September, the branch, which is located inside the Spar convenience store, will have been transformed into an open-plan branch with four serving positions. These will be a mixture of one screened, two open-plan and a Post Office serving point at the Spar retail counter, which will be available throughout the store’s opening hours offering selected services.

The same wide range of products and services will still be available at the post office counters during regular hours (9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1.30pm on Saturday).

During the period of closure, customers can use other Post Office branches in the local area, such as Little Stoke (8 Kingsway, Little Stoke BS34 6JL) and Filton (2 – 3 Church View, Filton BS34 7BT).

Post Office Ltd’s Area Manager Adrian Skinner said:

“The change to this branch is part of a three-year investment and support programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, which will see around 6,000 branches (about half the Post Office network) converting to new ‘main’ or ‘local’ style branches.”

“Our aim is to create a more modern and convenient retail experience for customers that will include longer opening hours.”

Hamper for lucky post office prize draw winner

Posted on Tuesday 10th July 2012 at 10:20 am by SH (Editor)

Patchway Post Office first anniversary prize draw presentation.

The lucky winner of a prize draw held to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of Patchway Post Office has been presented with a £100 Spar hamper, packed with groceries and goodies including a bottle of champagne and a set of Royal Mail’s stunning Diamond Jubilee stamps.

Julie Jarvis, a homecare assistant from Horfield, had been given a free raffle ticket when she visited the post office on an errand for one of four elderly clients that she looks after in Patchway.

When told she had been selected as the winner from the more than 500 people who had entered the draw, Julie said she couldn’t believe it, adding:

“I’m absolutely delighted. I’ve never won anything in my life!”

The new Patchway Post Office, situated within the Spar convenience store in Rodway Road, was officially opened by local MP Jack Lopresti in May 2011. Prior to its opening, the town had been without a post office since the previous one within the former Co-operative convenience store at Patchway Roundabout closed in 2009.

The Rodway Road post office is open from 9:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and between 9am and 1pm on Saturdays.

Neil Jenkins, Post Office Ltd spokesman, said:

“We were delighted to join Spar in celebrating Patchway Post Office’s first anniversary. When we appointed Spar as a new partner, it provided us with the opportunity to restore vital Post Office services to the local community after the original branch closed in 2009. Customers can renew car tax and passports using our ‘check and send service’ and buy foreign currency on demand.”

Post Office Area Manager Mike Wilson, who presented Julie with her prize, pointed out that the Patchway Post Office offers services that aren’t available at other nearby branches, such as the one at Pear Tree Road in Bradley Stoke.
