Open day at community centre and café

On Monday 3rd June, Coniston Community Centre and Brooks Café are holding a joint open day to showcase what they have on offer. Many people are surprised to find this modern community building and friendly great value café to be in the heart of Patchway, a short walk from Aztec Business Park and the shops and homes in Patchway.

The centre offers rooms for hire at from just £22 for a half day. The rooms are fresh and light, each with their own kitchenette and choice of table arrangements with smart modern furniture which offers and executive appeal. Projectors, screens and presentation equipment are all available on request. They can also offer clear open spaces and even a sprung floor for more lively activities!

The centre currently plays host to regular classes and activities all open to new members. These include, dance classes, circuit training, watercolourist group, friendship club, tea party, knitting and textile group, food cooperative, toddler group and craft group.

On the ground floor of the building is the popular Brooks Café with great value food and drinks. The café offers FREE wi-fi and a choice of freshly cooked main meals, sandwiches and drinks. Staffed by friendly volunteers, the café is a great place to meet with family, friends, work colleagues or just to take a break.

The open day promises to be a great day with the café offering FREE teas and coffee throughout. There are children’s activities, a chance speak to Southern Brooks Community Partnership about volunteering opportunities and to view the rooms for hire. There will be taster sessions for special interest and social activities that currently run at the centre. Visiting the centre is hugely recommended if you would like to know more about what is happening in the community and the facilities available.

Over 60s tea parties a big hit with residents

Over 60s tea party at Conistion Community Centre, Patchway

Older people from Patchway, Filton and The Stokes can now enjoy a free tea party once a month thanks to Southern Brooks Community Partnership and Coniston Community Association. The tea parties are held the last Sunday in the month from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Brooks Café, Coniston Community Centre in Patchway.

Karen Cheal from Southern Brooks said:

“Weekends can sometimes seem long for older people and we wanted to give the over 60s in the community a chance to catch up with old friends, meet new friends and find out what’s going on in their neighbourhood. Brooks Café provides a safe, clean and pleasant environment for us to offer free tea and coffee and plenty of cake to keep the conversation flowing!”

Speaking about the February tea party, people said:

“A really nice atmosphere, met old friends.”

“Very enjoyable and friendly afternoon.”

“It was really enjoyable, and the cakes and tea were very good. We will come again.”

The tea parties are run by volunteers from Coniston Community Association with transport provided by Four Towns & Vale Link Community Transport. Volunteers are always welcome, especially drivers.

Office available for rent at new community centre

The recently renovated Coniston Community Centre in Coniston Road, Patchway, has a brand new office available to rent.

The rent for the office is £5,500 per annum, and all rates, insurance, a daily cleaner and bills (excluding phone and internet) are included.

The centre is open between 7am and 10pm during the week; weekend opening is also a possibility.

The office measures 19ft long, by 23ft wide / 6 metres long, by 7 metres wide, and has underfloor heating and far reaching views.

Other organisations occupying offices at the centre include Southern Brooks Community Partnership, Battle Against Tranquilisers and the South Gloucestershire Asian and Chinese Association (from September).
