Police invite residents to Senior Citizens’ Day

Police give advice on doorstep crime prevention

The Patchway neighbourhood police team is inviting local people to a Senior Citizens’ Day this Wednesday (4th April).

Officers hope the event will help to prevent older people from falling victim to doorstep criminals. These can be thieves who talk their way into homes to steal, often by claiming to be from a water or power company, or ‘rogue traders’ who carry out unnecessary, shoddy or overpriced work.

Around 100 people are expected to attend the event at Patchway Community Centre, Rodway Road, between 10:30am and 3:30pm.

The day includes a performance by the Patchway youth choir Raise Your Voice and lunch and refreshments served by members of Edge Church.

Sponsored by Merlin Housing Society, the event also includes performances of the Scambuster and Trickster crime prevention plays by the Solomon Theatre Company.

Officers from the neighbourhood team will be on hand to offer advice, as well as South Gloucestershire Trading Standards officers and representatives of local utility companies.

Senior citizens from the Patchway and Stoke Lodge area are welcome to attend. Contact the neighbourhood team at Filton police station by calling 101 for more information.
